On August 11, GEPF Tanzania invited over 200 students from schools and colleges in the Dodoma Region, as well as youth from partnering organizations, to participate in a Youth Symposium under the theme: “The Involvement and Participation of Youth in Maintaining Peace.”

Representatives from the UN Tanzania emphasized that youth are central to development and a peaceful world. They must participate and be involved in society and take ownership of the implementation of the sustainable goals, particularly SDG 16, 'Promoting peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development'.
GEPF Tanzania Director, Martha Nghambi, highlighted the role of youth in contributing to peacebuilding campaigns, introducing the GEPF initiative “Vijana Na Amani,” or “Youth and Peace.” The campaign provides training in leadership skills and entrepreneur workshops so that young people emerge with moral and innovative leadership abilities to counter youth involvement in violent extremism prevalent across the country.
International Youth Day is celebrated on August 12 each year to recognize the efforts of the world’s youth in enhancing global society. It aims to promote ways to to engage youth in becoming more actively involved in making positive contributions to their communities.
