This year’s theme for International Day of Zero Tolerance for FGM is: “Translate political decisions into concrete actions at the national and grassroots level to reach the goal of zero tolerance to female genital mutilation by 2030.”
UNFPA is marking the day with government, national and international partners and around 180 youth at a Youth Conference in the Mara Region of Tanzania. Dialogues and consultations with youth, national and international partners will shine a light on what interventions are working to persuade communities to abandon FGM, and what further efforts are needed to eliminate this harmful practice to realize Target 5.3 of Sustainable Development Goal 5 to: “Eliminate all harmful practices, such as child, early and forced marriage and female genital mutilation” by 2030.
