11 July 2023 Its a World Population Day, in Tanzania the National commemorations will take place in Zanzibar with several activities. The Climax of World Population Day will take place on 11 July 2023.

This year's Theme: "Unleashing the power of gender equality: Uplifting the voices of women and girls to unlock our world’s infinite possibilities" UNFPA has been bringing its data, experience and stories to support the 10-year-old girl in a world of 8 billion through a variety of means. World Population Day 2023 gives us another opportunity to do so powerfully, as part of our continuing narrative on rights and choices to create a world of infinite possibilities.

This year’s State of World Population Report successfully catalyzed an informed conversation around global perceptions of population dynamics and how they can drive society to fixate on fertility rates – at the expense of the agency and bodily autonomy of women and girls.

We are taking the opportunity of World Population Day to trace this problem to its root: gender inequality. Around the world, this pervasive injustice keeps women and girls out of schools, the workforce and leadership positions; limits their ability to make decisions about their health and sexual and reproductive lives; and heightens their vulnerability to violence, harmful practices and preventable maternal death.

The result is a world that excludes, marginalizes and limits the potential of every other person on the planet – a problem that will prevent all of us, not just women and girls, from building a world of infinite possibilities.

Addressing gender inequality stands at the heart of all UNFPA’s work. This year, we will use World Population Day as a jumping-off point to reinvigorate conversations and efforts towards empowering women and girls with equal rights and choices in a world of 8 billion.
